Per qualche motivo, trovo divertente tradurre i proverbi ed i modi di dire. Forse dipende dal fatto che molta della loro efficacia deriva da allitterazioni, rime e altri aspetti linguistici intraducibili e quindi traducendoli rimane solo il significato letterale, un po’ come se restassero “nudi”. E da bravo bamboccione cresciuto in un ambiente cattolico e provinciale trovo buffa la nudità. Chissene.
L’importante è che mi diverto a farlo: non mi interessano la correttezza della traduzione o dell’eventuale lezione morale che il proverbio dovrebbe tramandare, solo l’effetto comico della traduzione. Critiche, commenti, suggerimenti sono benvenuti :)

For some reason, I find translating proverbs and sayings funny. Maybe it’s due to the fact that a lot of their effectiveness comes from alliterations, rhymes and other linguistic aspects which cannot be translated and so by translating them only the literal meaning remains, a bit like if they ended up “naked”. And as a big baby grown in a catholic and provincial environment, I find nakedness funny. Whatever. What matters is that I have fun doing it: I don’t care about correctness of the translation or the eventual moral lesson which the proverb should provide, I only care about the comical effect of the translation. Critiques, comments and suggestions are welcome :)

it: «In presenza del defunto, si canta l’uffizio» [non lo so, forse] davanti ad un defunto, le uniche parole rispettose sono quelle della liturgia. Oppure, è bene consolare qualcuno a cui sia capitata una sciagura.
en: «At the presence of the deceased, one sings the hymn» [I don’t know the meaning, maybe] while attending to a deceased person, the only respectful words are those of the liturgy. Or, it’s good to comfort someone in a time of grief

ne: «Throws no more neither at cups nor at sticks» he is unable to reason clearly, because of being tired or intoxicated.

bresciano: «Ala tò età, saltae i foss per èl lonch»
it: «Alla tua età, saltavo i fossi per il lungo» alla tua età, ero più prestante.
en: «At your age, I jumped the ditches by the long» when I was your age, I was physically better.
