Yeah, 20 years ago a 21 year old computer science student, with the help of some other people, created what was going to become one of the most used kernels ever: Linux. The union of this kernel with the already quite developed GNU system was the beginning of the Free (as in “freedom”) Software revolution. Today, GNU/Linux systems and Free Software (as in “freedom”) in general are everywhere. VLC media player, Firefox, Open Office, ubuntu and android are examples of extremely famous Free (as in “freedom”) Software projects. If you care about freedom and you use a computer or a smartphone, spread the word: let’s celebrate!

Esatto, 20 anni fà un 21enne studente di informatica, con l’aiuto di altre persone, creò quello che sarebbe diventato uno dei kernel più usati di sempre: Linux. L’unione di questo kernel con il già abbastanza sviluppato sistema GNU fu l’inizio della rivoluzione del Software Libero. Oggi i sistemi GNU/Linux ed il Software Libero in generale sono ovunque.
